We
decided to discover this city because it is the capital of a very
important country in Europa : Germany. It was very interesting to
visit, and it's not so far to Horsens.
We
took the train from Horsens to Copengahen, and the plane to Berlin, the
28th of March. For sleeping, we reserved a youth hostel, in down town.
The
first day, the weather was very bad. We went in the street, to discover
our environment. We were in est-Berlin, so we saw many legacy of the
communist occupation, like this bigs statues of Lenine and Marx.
We saw the rest of the Berlin wall : 2 or 3 kilometers long and 2,5 meters hight. There are beautiful paintings on the entire length, by increasing political and philosophical messages
about freedom, funny, hopeful and progress. I understood the hidden
meaning of this painting, because it is my generation.
We
decided to visit the Sachsenhausen concentration campus, now a memorial
center. It's a Nazi building, where they enclosed their political
opponents. This visit was very hard because we saw the place where many
people suffered and dead in horrific conditions. A microphone explaining what happened at each spot, with one witness. 100 000 peoples dead in this campus.
During the return, we were quiet.
We
made an alternative trip, with a free guide. We saw many strange topic
in the city, like old building where Jewish were hidden, and now there
are only graffiti on the wall. The entrance is free, and there is
alternative shop in the hight floor. It was very funny to see all this
colour and this particular culture.
We
saw many touristic building like the obelisque, the Brandebourg door
and the Charlottemburg castle (it's like our Versailles castle). I was
surprised to see the French, American, English and Russian flags in
front of the Brandebourg door, because our victory is old, and I think
if I was Deutsch, I would prefer to see the Germany flag in front of the
symbol of the capital.
We went to a brocante, near Mauer park, a nice park. It was sunny day, but very windy and we were very cold. We ate a choucroute, one of the Deutsch specialties.
We returned in Horsens the 3 April.
