Queen's birthday

Armorial bearing of Denmark

In Denmark, like other countries of North Europe (Sweden, Norway for instance), a queen is at the head of the state. Indeed, Denmark is a constitutional monarchy since 1848, now directed by Margrethe II, but this monarchy is more a symbol than a real governance. In reality, the State's Minister governs the country and now it is Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Nevertheless, the queen in Denmark is really appreciated, like the queen of United Kingdoms. For this reason, it is really interesting to know what are the opinions of Danish people about their queen.

During our trip in Denmark, we could noticed that the queen Margrethe II is really appreciated by the population. For example, we can quote her birthday which is a big day of traditional festival. It is not a public holiday but many of Danish people go to Copenhagen, at the royal residence, to see the queen. Indeed, the 16th April, the Danish royal family appeared at noon on the balcony of Christian IX's Palace, Amalienborg, in Copenhagen in celebration of her majesty queen Margrethe II birthday. This year, she celebrated her 72 years old.

On the occasion of this festival, we can see many buses that bring people in the square of the palace to see the royal family. The royal family is composed of:

Due to the cost of travel to Copenhagen (goings and comings Copenhagen-Horsens: ~722 Kr= ~97 euros) and a meeting organized in the same time at VIA University College for the international day, we couldn't go to see the queen for her birthday but another student went at this festival and told me that many people were present and euphoria in the crowd could feel. This day was a proof of love that brings the people of Denmark to his queen and even the entire Danish royal family.
